between the lines "combing through hot glass"

Since I am one of the featured artist for March at LocalColors art gallery and our show is called "Between The Lines'' I thought I would make a combing..process by where you cut stripes of glass the size of 1/4 inch and stack them sideways then heat them up to about 1640* and when molton you drag a metal rack through the glass to make a design's. Here is a pcture of the actuall combing process..
It is a great way to play with glass and make something fun.
Here are some pictures of the process...
Next month I will display this piece at Local Colors art gallery 1054 east 2100 south salt lake city.

screen melt

Getting ready to head out to my studio and attempt a screen melt, this processes is a lot of fun, it also helps with all the scrap glass you collect over the years.
The fiest step in this process is to get a screen that can withstand the heat of the kiln.
start by placing some fiber paper in the bottom of the kiln for the glass to melt on to, then
make a stand out of kiln furniture for the screen  to be placed on,
pick out your scrap glass you want to use, how much glass you use depends  on the shape and size of your desired melt.. be sure to clean...clean...clean your glass....
fire it up and see what happens...usually you will amaze yourself with the results.

My passion is glass... I make handcrafted fused and stained glass gifts by either fusing glass together or by using the copper foil method.
I use glass kilns to take glass to high temperatures, and then to cool fast to anneal glass to make it strong with this process I can make a large variety of glass gifts from jewelry to large sculptured pieces.
My passion started a few years ago making stained glass window panels and sun catchers by way of the copper foil technique.  But it was not until I bought my first glass kiln and started fusing that I discovered the wonderful world of melting glass.
With my glass kilns and tools I can make a large variety of fused art glass jewelry and gifts.
For me designing and creating  with glass is magic.
I believe that life was meant to be celebrated with color and magic each day…
Each piece of glass jewelry and each gift I make is unique and breathtaking…
For me creating colorful glass jewelry and gifts is a way for me to celebrate life...I love it…
My work can be found at Local Colors Art Gallery...
